The university’s main library building was constructed before half a century as it was the basic element to commence the then Imperial College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts in 1953,later called the Alemaya College, and now Haramaya University (HU). Since then the main library has been providing services to students and staff.
An anexe to the main library was built seven years ago. And, currently branch libraries, graduate students library, Female students Library, Harar campus library, Chiro campus library and the recently commenced technology campus library are serving the university community. The constructions of two new libraries are under going for college of law and college of veterinary medicine, respectively. Constructions of these new buildings are important as they are a means to end. But what goes on within the buildings-that is what is more important. Thus, such library buildings will curb many plotlines, beyond looking attractive.
