Background & Historical Evolution

Established 30 years ago, the Directorate of Continuing and Distance Education (DCDE) began as the Continuing Education Program (CEP). Initially delivering Certificate and Diploma programs in Agricultural fields at Haramaya University and Harar, it rapidly expanded across eastern and regional centers.

Establishment

Launched the Continuing Education Program (CEP) offering Agriculture certificates and diplomas in Haramaya and Harar, soon expanding to Dire Dawa and Jigjiga.

1990 E.C.

Initiated the Summer Undergraduate Education Program (SEP) to support school teachers during their vacation periods.

1993 E.C.

Launched Distance Education diploma programs in partnership with the Faculties of Education and Business & Economics.

1996 – 1999 E.C.

Opened the Continuing & Summer Postgraduate Program and formally established the Faculty of Continuing and Distance Education.
