To this end, the introduction of this vegetable crop to the Ethiopian food system has its merits to alleviate the problem of food insecurity the country faces.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27483\" src=\"https:\/\/www.haramaya.edu.et\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/07\/New-Guest-2.jpg\" alt=\"An event was organized at Tony Farm to introduce Chaya\" width=\"300\" height=\"103\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.haramaya.edu.et\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/07\/New-Guest-2.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.haramaya.edu.et\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/07\/New-Guest-2-24x8.jpg 24w, https:\/\/www.haramaya.edu.et\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/07\/New-Guest-2-36x12.jpg 36w, https:\/\/www.haramaya.edu.et\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/07\/New-Guest-2-48x16.jpg 48w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr. Daniel Alemu, lead investigator of the project and an instructor in Haramaya Institute of Technology, gave demonstration on how to prepare the vegetable and discussed advantages of including\u00a0<em>Chaya<\/em>\u00a0to our tables at home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Mr. Daniel it is advisable to cook the leaves for 20-25 minutes before cooking them as desired. The Ethiopian community should also look for food sources with high nutritious values and researchers are encouraged to conduct research activities in such areas in order to improve the living and food quality of the community.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Attendees were encouraged to take the seedlings of the vegetable crop to their homes, grow them and make the vegetable a regular on their tables. The fiel trial of the variety on Dire Dawa Tony Farm goes along the line of the University\u2019s community engagement and activities and its commitment to ensure food security and improve quality of life of the community.
