The proposals focused on three thematic areas, according to Girma Berhe, coordinator of IOT Research and Community Engagement Office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%; background: white; margin: 0in 0in 10.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The first theme is related to natural resource and climate change. The second theme focuses on energy and post-harvest technology. Institutions, innovation systems and economic development is the third theme of the research proposals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%; background: white; margin: 0in 0in 10.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The Institute is has also encouraged graduate students to participate in its endeavor. Three of the research proposals were prepared by MSc candidates of IOT.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%; background: white; margin: 0in 0in 10.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">IOT has a plan to conduct various research projects in collaboration with different stakeholders, Dr. Asfaw indicated in an interview he had with HU FM 91.5.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%; background: white; margin: 0in 0in 10.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">\u201cIn collaboration with research and community offices of Haramaya University, we have plans to play our part in doing research in areas of biogas, drip irrigation, and water harvesting, among other,\u201d the dean explained.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1149\" src=\"https:\/\/www.haramaya.edu.et\/hit\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/12\/282.jpg\" alt=\"Institute of Technology (IoT) conducted its first in house research proposal review meeting\" width=\"560\" height=\"373\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.haramaya.edu.et\/hit\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/12\/282.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.haramaya.edu.et\/hit\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/12\/282-84x56.jpg 84w, https:\/\/www.haramaya.edu.et\/hit\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/12\/282-24x16.jpg 24w, https:\/\/www.haramaya.edu.et\/hit\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/12\/282-36x24.jpg 36w, https:\/\/www.haramaya.edu.et\/hit\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/12\/282-48x32.jpg 48w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%; background: white; margin: 0in 0in 10.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">According to the recent annual report released by Haramaya University, currently among the total number students enrolled in the University in the undergraduate program, 36.2 % belong to IOT. The same report indicates that the Institute has a total of 92 local and 16 expatriate staff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: 150%; background: white; margin: 0in 0in 10.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">IOT was established as an independent institute of the University in 2004 at Dire Dawa sub-campus.\u00a0 The Institute is currently running eight regular undergraduate programs. M.Sc. programs as well as one PhD program are offered by the Institute.
