{"id":854,"date":"2022-02-09T12:00:34","date_gmt":"2022-02-09T12:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/haramaya.edu.et\/hit\/?page_id=854"},"modified":"2025-12-30T06:07:59","modified_gmt":"2025-12-30T06:07:59","slug":"uil-and-technology-transfer","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.haramaya.edu.et\/hit\/uil-and-technology-transfer\/","title":{"rendered":"UIL and Technology Transfer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\t<h3>\n\t\t\t\t\tAbout UIL and Technology Transfer\n\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<br \/>\n\tUIL-TT was established in 2011, which by then was known as \u201cUIL office\u201d which predominantly was engaged in facilitating the enrolment of students in internship program. In 2014 the office was re-established as the \u201cOffice of Research and Community Engagement\u201d, keeping the internship coordination and incorporation of the researches and community engagement activities. Following the upgrading of the institute which actually had a mandate of a college to a fully flagged institute -Haramaya Institute of Technology (HiT) in 2016, the office is renamed \u201cUniversity-Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer (UIL-TT) Office\u201d.<br \/>\nThe UIL-TT office engagement of students in practical trainings in different industries in Ethiopia as part of fostering of industry led education through Qualified Internship System (QIS), the involvement of staffs of the institute in externship to help them tie the lessons in their class with industrial problems and identify those which could be solved by university-industry collaborative researches\/projects, engagement of staffs and students of the institute in technology transfer activities in which the end users are the community at large and the industries (small to large). The office is also involved in facilitation of community based projects and trainings which are undertaken by the academic staffs of the institute and students in collaboration with our stakeholders (for instance, TVETs).\n\t<h3>\n\t\t\t\t\tUIL \u2013 Qualified Internship System (QIS)\n\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<br \/>\n\t<p>The office strives in building better linkage with different industries through Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs), which helps both stakeholders in finding the ways they can work together to get the best out of their synergy. Haramaya Institute of Technology has also established Qualified Internship System (QIS), which is part of the new revised curriculum for the engineering fields. In this system students will get their first practical experience in industries during internship period which is considered in the second semester of 4th year or in the first semester of 5th year, so that they practice and acquire technical and operational knowledge, as well as skills in various sections of the industry.<\/p>\n\t<h3>\n\t\t\t\t\tUndertaken Community Based Trainings in 2016\/17 Academic Year\n\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\n\t<ul>\n<li>Proper Food Processing and Handling for Food Processors of Micro and Small Enterprises in East Hararghe and Harari Regional State.<\/li>\n<li>Training on Occupational Safety for Industrial Organizations and Micro Enterprises nearby Haramaya University. (By Collaboration of three departments of the institute)<\/li>\n<li>Training on Green Building and Sustainable Energy for Environmental Friendly Rural Housing Development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<h3>\n\t\t\t\t\tOngoing Community Based Projects (Technology Transfer Activities)\n\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<br \/>\n\t<ul>\n<li>Design Implementation of Low Cost Automatic Solar Poultry Incubator for Haramaya Woreda Farmers<\/li>\n<li>Household Scale Biogas Technology Transfer<\/li>\n<li>Modification and Performance Evaluation of Manually Operated One Row Maize Dibbler<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<h3>\n\t\t\t\t\tTechnology Transfer (TT) and Business Incubation (BI)\n\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<p><\/p>\n\t<p>The UIL-TT office is also involved in the purposeful transfer of the results of research from the institute into the society, industry, and the economy in general and provision of a range of services to entrepreneurs and startups, including physical infrastructure , management support, technical support (researchers, data bases), access to financing (venture capital funds, business angel networks), legal assistance (licensing, intellectual property) through Technology Business Incubation Center (TBIC).<\/p>\n\t<h3>\n\t\t\t\t\tTechnology Business Incubation Center (TBIC)\n\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<br \/>\n\t<p>This is a center in HiT which is at its early establishment phase which is intended to support and accelerate the successful development and transformation of selected, early stage technological businesses with high potential, into self-sufficient, growing, and profitable enterprises.
