Haramaya University Rejuvenating Curriculums<\/h1>\n

Haramaya University College of Social Science and Humanities Conducted In-house Curriculum Review Workshop on May 30, 2022.<\/p>\n

\"In-house<\/p>\n

The curriculums reviewed at the workshop include PhD in climate change and disaster risk management (upgrading), MSc in Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management (revising), MSc in Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing (new), MSc Environmental Management and Land Administration (upgrading), and MA in History (revision).<\/p>\n

Dr. Adinew Tadesse, dean of College of Social Sciences and Humanities on his welcoming speech said that the rationale for the curriculum review workshop is to make the programs fit the timely needs of stakeholders. The reviewed curriculums have been developed by the department members\u2019 team which consulted and shared the other Universities experiences in the curriculum organizing process, according to Dr. Adinew.<\/p>\n

Professor Mengistu Urge, vice president for academic affairs, in his opening remarks, mentioned that the organized curriculum review is important and timely because of three main reasons such as the University\u2019s strategic plan to increase postgraduate programs, to meet the criteria for to be research University, and to increase joint teaching activities with neighbor countries like Somalia. The president added that the prepared curriculums should address the students\u2019 needs and should be relevant to the country. Moreover, the availability of human and material resources should be taken into consideration during the curriculum development.<\/p>\n

After being presented, the reviewed curriculums were sent to the next step with the inclusion of comments and suggestions from reviewers and participants.<\/p>\n
