Haramaya University Law Students Shine in International Essay Competition, Earn Prestigious Lex: Lead Ambassadorships<\/h1>\n

Two outstanding LL.B. students from the College of Law at Haramaya University, Mr. Abdurezak Nebi Sado and Mr. Lenjisa Ahmed Hussen, have achieved remarkable success in the 2025 Lex: Lead (Lawyers for Economic Advancement and Development) Essay Competition.<\/p>\n

Their successful essays focused on the important link between climate change law and economic development, earning them 2025 Lex: Lead Ambassador positions and valuable professional opportunities.<\/p>\n

The students’ insightful analyses of “How Can Laws Regulating Climate Change and the Environment Support Economic Development?” impressed an independent panel of judges, securing them a $500 cash prize each. Their achievement is particularly noteworthy considering the competition’s fierce international field, drawing entries from across Asia and Africa. Out of 19 African finalists, only three were from Ethiopia, with Abdurezak and Lenjisa representing two of those top spots.<\/p>\n

“This is a testament to the dedication and talent of our students,” said Dr. Richard Wentzel, Dean of the College of Law at Haramaya University. “We’ve fostered a culture of excellence in research and writing, preparing our students not only for academic success but also for impactful careers in the legal profession.”<\/p>\n

Adding to their accomplishment, both students have secured coveted internships with leading international law firms: Mr. Abdurezak Nebi is sponsored by the US-based Launch Legal, while Mr. Lenjisa Ahmed is sponsored by the UK-based A&O Shearman. These internships, coupled with their ambassadorships, offer invaluable experiential learning opportunities.<\/p>\n

Lex: Lead, a US-based charity organization under the International Bar Association, aims to empower lawyers worldwide to contribute to development, especially in least developed countries. The organization’s focus on practical application aligns perfectly with the College of Law’s commitment to experiential learning.<\/p>\n

Beyond academic coursework, students at Haramaya University’s College of Law actively participate in extracurricular programs, including clinical legal education and moot court competitions. Abdurezak and Lenjisa’s dedication to honing their research, writing, and analytical skills has not only earned them this prestigious recognition but also positioned them as future leaders in the legal field.<\/p>\n
