Haramaya University Law Students Compete in K.K. Luthra Memorial Moot Court in New Delhi<\/strong><\/h1>\n

A team from Haramaya University’s College of Law is representing Ethiopia at the 22nd K.K. Luthra Memorial Moot Court Competition, hosted by the University of Delhi’s Faculty of Law from February 13-15, 2026.<\/p>\n

The undergraduate LL.B team consists of Firomsa Gelan Begna, Gutema Tsegaye Leta, and Adonay Getaneh Tilahun. Lecturer Wendmeneh Beyene Taye and Assistant Lecturer Habtamu Siwaya Chala coach them. The squad has advanced to the preliminary oral rounds at the Campus Law Centre after excelling in written submissions.<\/p>\n

The K.K. Luthra Memorial Moot Court is the premier international criminal law moot court, attracting hundreds of top universities. It is being attended by many academic and professional dignitaries, including the Chief Justice of the Indian Supreme Court, who gave the keynote speech.<\/p>\n

Dr. Richard Wentzel, Dean of the College of Law at Haramaya University, highlighted that the team secured their place through a challenging internal competition, which included team-based tests and the submission of high-quality written memorials on complex criminal law cases. Only 71 universities worldwide received invitations to the final oral rounds based on the merit of their submissions. \u201cTheir research and writing skills were outstanding,\u201d Dr. Richard stated. The team has now commenced the preliminary oral rounds at the Campus Law Centre at the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.<\/p>\n

“Haramaya University is training not just exceptional legal minds, but also future leaders,” Dr. Richard stated. “These competitions assess strategic thinking, adaptability, and advocacy skills against global peers, simulating high-stakes courtroom scenarios.” The international moot court competitions provide students with the opportunity to evaluate their advocacy skills alongside some of the top legal minds from around the world.<\/p>\n

The moot courts replicate the actual courtroom experience, measuring adaptability while requiring legal reasoning and critical thinking skills. These international moot courts challenge students to develop lawyering skills that extend beyond simple knowledge of the law, assessing their ability to think critically and respond strategically under immense pressure, Dr. Richard emphasized.<\/p>\n
