Haramaya University College of Agriculture and Environmental Science, Kicked off Agro- ecology-ISFM Project on March 18, 2022.<\/p>\n

The project kick off program was organized by the school of Natural and Environmental Sciences in collaboration with the office of vice president for academic affairs. In this program, Prof. Mengistu, Dr, Zelalem, Dr. Steven and Mr. Arbo Feyisa have shared us very important points on the topic.<\/p>\n

Professor Mengistu Urge, Haramaya University Vice President for Academic Affairs, said in his opening speech that the project funded by the German Cooperation and Development Organization (GIZ) will help the University in several aspects. For instance, it helps the University to look at its own academic curriculum limitations and provide timely education to students in addition to the fact that it will contribute significantly to achieve the educational mission of Haramaya University as one of its missions is to conduct intensive research on the agricultural sector and contributes something at national level. Moreover, the ecologically integrated soil development project will create good opportunities to complete various activities which are underway to improve the sector and prevent depletion of critical natural resources, said Professor Mengistu.<\/p>\n

Dr. Zelalem Bekeko, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, in his part, said that, Due to the fact that soil fertility is declining in Ethiopia and making the agricultural sector difficult, it is necessary to carry out ecology-based integrated soil development work. In order to maintain sustainable productivity, much work needs to be done, starting with curriculum revision. As a result, our college has launched this project using fund from the German Cooperative Development organization (GIZ).<\/p>\n

\"Dr.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of GIZ, Dr. Steven S. a representative of the German Cooperation and Development Institute said that, in addition to producing qualified agricultural professionals, Haramaya University has regularly witnessed significant contribution to the country in agricultural development, especially to farmers and investors. Therefore, the institute (GIZ) is ready to work with Haramaya University in various fields in addition to the current project, added Dr. Steven.<\/p>\n

\"Dr.<\/p>\n

Mr. Arbo Feyisa, head of the Department of Natural and Environmental Sciences, said this project will help us in particular to augment our agricultural productivity by scientifically incorporating eco-friendly farming, soil reclamation and climate change mitigation measures, and in general to increase food supply in the country.<\/p>\n
