Haramaya University (HU) organized and hosted an International Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture during 25-26 March 2016 under the theme of “Statistics for Agricultural Development!” The conference was conducted in the resource center of the university for two consecutive days.

Haramaya University (HU) organized and hosted an International Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture during 25-26 March 2016 under the theme of “Statistics for Agricultural Development!” The conference was conducted in the resource center of the university for two consecutive days.

Guest of Honor of the event, Zena Habtewold, from the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources made an opening speech for the gatherings and said the role of statistics is key to insure production and productivity in the agriculture sector. He also added that statisticians should come at the forefront of research and development interventions to realize the country’s vision.

Prof. Chemeda Fininsa, President of Haramaya University on his part said statistics is very important discipline which enables us to make appropriate scientific decision in research and development works.

The conference has brought distinguished professors, academicians, researchers and young scientists together from abroad and Ethiopian universities. More than 150 participants were in attendance and 26 research articles were presented and fruitful discussions were held.

Mr. Tariku Tessema, General Secretary of the Conference organizing committee and Head of the department of statistics of Haramaya University expressed his deepest and heartfelt thanks to all staff members and the university community for their immense and valuable contributions for the successful completion of the conference.
