Haramaya University has graduated 8512 students in different fields of studies in a colorful ceremony on July 9, 2016 held at Afran Kallo hall of the university. Of the total graduates 26 of them were PhD graduates, 577 Masters, 949 Postgraduate diploma and 6960 in First degree. Among the total graduates, 2884(26.8 %) were female students.

Prof. Chemeda Fininsa, President of Haramaya University, has congratulated the graduates on their successful achievements. He has also congratulated parents, teachers and families of the graduates for being able to see their children/students fruits.

In his speech, Prof. Chemeda said Haramaya University is one of the leading universities in the country and has been serving for 62 years in academic and research activities. He further underlined that the university is playing its prominent role on enhancing community services.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Chemeda Fininsa exhorted that graduate students have to be committed and honest to serve their society and contribute their share towards the Ethiopian growth and transformation in every aspects. In addition, he emphasized that graduate students are expected to use their knowledge and skill to create jobs and innovate.

Guest of Honour of the ceremony, Seleshi Getahun, Minister of Livestock and Fishery Development and Chairman of Haramaya University’s Board, has congratulated the graduates and conveyed message. Minister Seleshi Getahun has emphasized that graduate students are expected to involve actively in the overall development of the country. He also added that graduates have to work hard so as to fasten and realize the renaissance of the country. The minister has also handed out degrees and awards to graduate students.
On the same occasion, President of Haramaya University Students’ Union, Abdurazak Kedir, addressed a message to the graduating students. He said that graduate students are expected to contribute to the success and growth and transformation plan of the country through the knowledge they have obtained during their stay in the university.

Eventually, the commencement ceremony was wrapped up with a visit to an exhibition in the main campus, which highlighted different colleges’ activities.
