Haramaya University College of Law won the First East Ethiopian Moot Court competition



Haramaya University College of Law students’ team won the first East Ethiopian Moot Court competition, which was held from May 9-10, 2015 at Jigjiga University. The participants of the competition were the three East Ethiopian Universities Jigjiga, Dire-Dawa and Haramaya University. Haramaya University (HU) was represented by Endalkachew Abera and Yibeltal Alemu third and fourth year law students respectively.


The competition which focuses on the application of investment and environmental law in Pastoral areas was judged by Assistant professor Mulgeta Getu of Haramaya, Mr. Zemen Bezualem of Dire Dawa and Mr. Fikir of Jigjiga University law schools.

HU collage of law team played with Jigjiga University and Dire Dawa University, as Respondent and Applicants respectively, on first round and qualified to the final round by winning both teams and scoring the average point of 90 out of 100” according to HUteam coach Tariku Adugna (staff member. “In the final round, our team played with Dire Dawa University as an Applicant and won the oral litigation with remarkable difference and become champion of the competition” Mr. Tariku added.

 By this, Haramaya University College of law awarded a trophy for winning the oral litigation and for becoming the overall winner of the competition.


Similarly, on the best orator category, Student Yibeltal Alemu from Haramaya University won the prize and called best orator of the first east Ethiopian moot court competition. Additionally in the best memorial category HU team stands second with the average point of 84 next to Jigjiga University, which score 86 points.
