Faculty Of Continuing and Distance Education
Background
The Faculty of Continuing and Distance Education is a full-fledged
faculty that has emerged from the Continuing Education, the
Summer-in-Service, and Distance Education Programs of the University.
The Faculty's accountability is directly to the Office of the
Academic and Research Vice-President (ARVP).
Haramaya
University has made immense contribution towards the creation
of skilled manpower for the country through Summer-in-service,
Distance Education and Continuing Education Programs. The Summer-in-service
program runs trainings in over 20 fields of studies, comprising
certificate to MSc levels of specializations. The Continuing
Education Programme also runs trainings of five faculties- Faculty
of Business and Economics, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Technology,
Faculty of Health Sciences and School of Graduates Studies.
The distance education division which was offering diploma trainings
in six field of teacher education has recently launched first
degree trainings in Agricultural Economics, Rural Development
and Agriculture Extension, Economics and Management. The program
operates in four towns in eastern and south eastern Ethiopia,
viz. Harar, Chiro, Adama, and Assela. On the basis of need assessment,
there is a plan to increase both number of training fields and
area coverage.
In general, the programs in the Faculty have created great opportunity
for citizens who have the desire to upgrade their professional
qualifications, but have problem to meet their desires through
regular programs. The university is making continual efforts
to raise the quality as well as the relevance of the trainings
these divisions offer.
