objectives of the Department
The accounting Department of the Faculty of Business and
Economics (FBE) plans to meet the University’s mission
of instilling into present and future-leaders knowledge
of current and future accounting, auditing and finance practices
and relevant skills through student-centered high quality,
viable program which are fully recognized by both the private
and public institutions in Ethiopia.

produce graduates in its regular degree program to satisfy
a portion of the demand for accounting graduates in
the country.

To establish linkage programs with different stakeholders
from which the department will be to tap resources and
share experiences.

in the surrounding and the country.

The graduate profile is the base for designing a curriculum
that would lead to the realization of the desired output.
Accounting degree graduates are expected to assume functional
responsibilities in any sector where accountability and
transparency are needed.

1. Objective of the Program
The overall objective of the program is to
develop expertise in cooperative and different related people
centered organizations with capability to promote self-reliance
and governance. The expertise is aiming at altering values,
economic opportunities and ways of controlling own resources
to attain transparency, cooperation and involvement of members.
The specific and educational objectives of the programme are:
1.1. Specific Objectives
• To produce trained manpower who can work in multifaceted
cooperatives, Cooperative Banks, Cooperative Promotion and Development
Bureaus, cooperative training institutions and universities.
• To provide short-term training programs and cooperative
education activities through correspondence and field and radio
programs for cooperative leaders and members.
• To carry out cooperative research and consultancy services
on policies and methodologies for institutional and organizational
development of cooperatives and other community-based institutions.

Knowledge : Students know concepts, theories, principles and
philosophy of cooperation, cooperative organization, management,
auditing and accounting.
Skill : Students develop ability and capacity to organize cooperatives,
Prepare organizational plans, manage cooperatives, audit cooperative
resources, offer training and conduct cooperative research and
consultancy.
Attitude : Students appreciate the role of cooperation in alleviating
poverty; and develop in them the attitude of self-help, self-reliance
and self-employment. Moreover, they show the basic sense of
honesty, unity and dedication in executing tasks they are assigned
for.
Nomenclature of the Programme
The nomenclature of the degree shall read as “B.A.., Degree
in Cooperatives (Business Management) / B.A., degree in Cooperatives
(Accounting and Auditing).

Duration of the programme
The duration of the programme in line with the new educational
policy is three years consisting of Six Semesters. Starting
the fourth semester students take two elective courses in either
of two emphasis areas – Cooperatives Business Management
(CBM) and Cooperatives Accounting & Auditing (CAA).
4. Graduate profile
Graduates of cooperative education have a wide range of work
opportunities. They can work in cooperative societies, cooperative
organization and promotion bureaus, cooperative banks, Cooperative
training institutions, Junior Colleges, governmental and non-governmental
organizations as managers, accountants, auditors, researchers
and teachers.
