Background
By
the decision of the Ministry of Education, the Faculty of Business
and Economics was established at the Haramaya University in the
year 2003. The objective of the government in opening the programs
is obvious, that is, to produce highly trained manpower that could
contribute to the development efforts of the country.

The
vision of the faculty of Business and Economics of the Haramaya
University is to become a center of excellence in the fields of
Business, Economics, Cooperatives and information Science and technology.

The mission statements of the Faculty of Business
and Economics are:

To train qualified manpower in the area of Business and Economics,
CS & IT and Cooperatives that could contribute to the development
efforts of the country.

Initiate and conduct demand driven researches in the aforementioned
areas of studies.

To provide need based and reliable consultancy and short-term
training services to the society.

At present, the faculty trains students under its five regular degree
programs. These degree programs are in the fields of:
• Accounting
• Computer Science
& Information Technology
• Cooperatives
• Economics
• Business Management
The faculty has started summer
degree programs both in Accounting and Management fields before
two years. The summer program aims at providing trainings that
upgrade diploma graduates to degree graduates. The faculty is
also under preparation to launch distance education in the fields
of Business in Degree programs by the coming January. The distance
program will target individuals who can’t join the regular
and summer programs due to various reasons.
