Academic Requirements

Admission

Successful completion of the preparatory program and placement by Ministry of Education.

Graduation

• 105 credit hours
• 2.0 or better Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)
• No “F” grade in any course(s) taken

Graduate Profile and Competence

The development, growth and improvement of living standards in Ethiopia are predicated on efficient, equitable and sustainable use of its endowment of renewable and non-renewable resources. The economy will remain heavily or largely rural for the nearest decades. It will continue to depend heavily on agriculture, in particular smallholder based production, as well as agro-industry, for generating income, employment and export earnings. Subject to competing demands, its fragile resource base must be managed carefully, and equitably.

Responding to this challenge, the BSc in Agricultural Economics program will equip students, not only with the requisite concepts, knowledge and tools in economics, but also the ability to adapt them to the realities of their institutional, political and economic setting. Such capacities are especially appropriate for the Country, which has assigned very high priority to human development, poverty reduction, and food security.

The program will provide students with as solid foundation in economic concepts and methods for various purposes including applied analysis as professionals within government, business and not for profit agencies; further advanced study for those seeking a career in teaching and research; and lifelong learning and retooling. A key attribute will be creativity in tackling problems as functioning professionals and researchers through an acquired capacity to adapt concepts and instruments to the issue at hand.
