It’s an in person conference at Haramaya University, Oromia,Ethiopia. In collaboration with University of Minnesota Twin Cities, International Oromo Health Professionals Association and Africa and Middle East Congress on addiction.

It is our pleasure to announce the Haramaya conference on mental health and related substance use disorders that will be held at Haramaya University, Ethiopia8-10 December, 2022. The conference will include keynote presentations and research papers presented within thematically focused session. The following themes will be covered:

  • Recent research on mental health challenges in Ethiopia and Easter Africa
  • Recent research on substance use challenges in Ethiopia and Easter Africa
  • Research on mental health and substance abuse comorbidity
  • Research focusing on khat use and its impact on mental health
  • Strategies and policies focusing on prevention and intervention efforts for mental health and substance use problems in the region

The conference is organized by the Haramaya University in collaboration with the International Oromo Health Professionals Association and the Africa & Middle East Congress on Addiction (AMECA).

Format
Oral and poster research papers presented within thematically focused sessions

Targeted audience
Researchers, clinicians, and health educators and policy makers in multiple medical and mental health fields including physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and addiction counselors are invited to attend.

Topics

Abstracts should be related to mental health and substance use research and would later be clustered into one of the following themes:

  • Recent research on mental health challenges in Ethiopia and Easter Africa
  • Recent research on substance use challenges in Ethiopia and Easter Africa
  • Research on mental health and substance abuse comorbidity
  • Research focusing on khat use and its impact on mental health
  • Strategies and policies focusing on prevention and intervention efforts for mental health and substance use problems in the region

Instructions for submission

  • All abstracts must be submitted and presented in clear English.
  • Abstracts should be submitted as an attachment word documents sent to Abstract Submission Form
  • Abstracts will be reviewed by members from the scientific committee to assess quality, relevance, and appropriateness for the conference.
  • Notifications regarding abstract acceptance/rejection will be sent to abstract submitters by October 3, 2022.
  • Following acceptance, scheduling information will be sent to the abstract submitter.
